Barbarella

Barbarella, originally uploaded by yarngal628.

My daughter, Amy, & I came into the Yarn Gallery in May to pick out yarn for
this project.

She chose the vivid colors of Tahki Cotton Classic for her top.

In the photo Amy doesn’t look too happy, but really she likes it!

Here’s a link to the original pattern:

How I Spent My Summer Vacation

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Ta-DA! How do you like the new look to our blog? Janelle just finished it and I’m trying it out today. I’m pretty excited because now you can participate – you can subscribe and post comments and post your own pictures to the customer gallery! The instructions for posting pictures are on the lower right of the screen and if you run into any snags, e-mail me.

Here’s the only rule (so far): Don’t be mean. I mean it.

So guess what I did on vacation? Shopped for yarn, that’s what! I bought some Tilli Tomas yarns to make this lovely shawl from Heartstrings. (No I didn’t make it yet, this is a photo from the e-mail Tracy at Tilli Tomas sent out.)

The yarn should arrive tomorrow when I open the doors. I want to make this shawl in the worst way! And I finally had time to contact Fleece Artist and look over her new yarns and colorways. Oh, my, some gorgeous stuff will be hitting the door, but that is still some time off. I promise I’ll keep you posted and I’ll really try to share!

This fall is going to be amazing. The other thing I did on vacation was take the time to look through all the yarns I have on order and be sure that I either love or LOOOOVE everything I’m getting in. I cancelled anything that left me feeling rather aloof because I want to be excited about every carton that arrives. Well, there are always a few things that are strictly for practical purposes, but I can love them for their utility anyway. I simply cannot wait for those boxes to come in the front door.

Can you tell the week off did me good? Not that I don’t love my job all the time and know how lucky I am – I do! But a few days away from the dailiness of it just allows that excitement to come back – and it has! I feel like I did when I first opened the doors about 6 and a half years ago and could hardly bear to leave at the end of the day.

I didn’t get a whole lot of knitting done, although when I visited my sister Janet in Baltimore, we had a movie and Monk marathon, so I worked on my Adult Surprise Jacket so I would be caught up with the class tomorrow night. I also finished a beautiful lace shawl (I only had the border to do) and it’s blocking away upstairs right now. The socks I started – no progress. The sweater in a new Berroco yarn – only the swatch is done. (It counts, though, because it will double as a pocket lining in the finished sweater since the gauge was right.) I need to knit, knit, knit and get some things done!

Meanwhile, other people are going strong, so I do have some wonderful things to show you. First, here is another great project from David Ritz. I don’t know the pattern but the yarn is Ty-Dy, which he bought to make the market bag that Janet is teaching in August (still space available, by the way, check out the photo and details on the Classes page ). Anyway, there the yarn sat, just begging to be knitted up into something that did wonderful things with the color changes, and David obviously has about as much resistance to great yarn as I do, because he caved and knitted this adorable top, with mitered blocks and all kinds of fun stuff going on. How cute is this?

HISMSV: Part 2

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Okay this may be a pain if i can’t rattle on as much as I want. This is the rest (I hope) of the post above, including Dave Ritz’s sweater:
Mary Ann Posey finished a really pretty tee that used a slip stitch pattern and two different weights of yarn, from the summer edition of Knitter’s magazine:

She’s off and running on a second version in a different color.

Martha Van Kouwenberg knows a lot about knitting and takes classes and does great projects. Now, having said all that, this project is just plain fun. Martha made a Magic Wand from a bunch of different yarns for her grandson – how cool is that? And, of course, a Magic Wand must have a wand cozy to keep the magic intact while not in use. I bet her grand just loves it.

Another project for a little one is this darling little bear, knit and then felted by Tracy Wood. Tracy will add a face and maybe a cute little hat, then some little person will have a treasured toy.

And Zena Hafetz finished this adorable little shrug for her granddaughter and is now working on a pullover for her grandson in the same yarn.

And (now that I’m seeing the photos) I remember that I did finish something – this scarf in seven different colors of Manos Silk Blend is striking and soft to wear. The colors just glow and the kettle-dyed effect that is Manos’ trademark allows all the colors to blend. The pattern is free with yarn purchase. And I have enough left of all the colors to do something fun, but I haven’t decided what yet – I may wait until I see some of the new collections and books for fall.

You can just barely see Jackson at my feet – he is in his favorite rub-my-tummy position.

Okay, enough, I’ll try to post this to the new page and we’ll see how it goes.

Can’t wait to see you!

Trish
