The Groundhog Can Take a Hike
Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009Another dreary day outside but in this house, all is springtime! I’m tired of woolly yarns and dark colors and have decided I’m knitting for spring even though the new yarns aren’t here yet. I picked out an eyepopping shade of turquoise cotton and started a short-sleeved jacket, ignoring my nice afghan in Galway Chunky and only grudgingly working on my cardigan in Aspen,
a nice cotton-wool blend from Fibra Natura that seemed springy when it was 19 degrees outside, but just doesn’t satisfy my longing for brighter light and colors, balmy breezes, and a kinder, gentler atmosphere altogether. I’ve spent a small fortune on spring fashion magazines just absorbing colors and the energy that comes from not being covered up from head to toe 24-7. (And, of course, in 6 months, I’ll be waxing poetic about the joys of autumn, cooler temperatures, wool and all its comforts – it’s nice to be able to count on some things in life.)
We saw some beautiful projects this week, so let’s get right to them. Amy Mammarella made this beautiful scarf from last fall’s Knitscene. Doesn’t it look cozy? The lace contrasted with fair-isle bands made it a challenge, but that’s what Amy loves about it.
Reading Hospital was well-represented in the shop this week: Jettie Hunt and Sylvia Kurpiewski were in for a class:
And here is Tracy Moyer modeling her pretty cardigan in Silk Garden:

Rochelle Mann finished this beautiful sweater for her lucky husband, done in her own design from Elsbeth Lavold’s Silky Wool:
Sorry for the cock-eyed picture. Here is a detail that shows the ribbing and cables a little better:
And Melissa Korth came to class wearing her cozy version of the Napa Pullover and I had to have a photo:
Okay, the boys need a walk and the house needs straightening up (yarn samples, patterns, magazines, projects everywhere!) so I shall see you soon!
Trish
