A Knitter’s View of the News

Another stunning sweater below from David Ritz, really so beautiful.  I love the way the contrasts shade into each other.  A note for anyone who posts: It would be great, if you have the information, to put the source of the design on the post – everyone will want to know!

I was sent some really cute photos this week. Check out this sweetie:Alise in Green Swtr This is Alise Nierle in a hat and sweater made by mom Trish who was gifted the yarn by our teacher (and Trish’s colleague at school) Deb Cech.  Doesn’t she look so cute in her Jelli Beenz set, all ready to hit the streets and set the world on fire!

And Susie Crump sent pictures of the people she knits for modeling her wares.  First, new grandson Sitka with a knitted DNA molecule, which is about the same size as he is.  The molecule is a reference to Sitka’s father’s (Susie’s son) research, and isn’t it clever?  Sitka with DNAHe was born just a few weeks before this photo was taken.  And below we have Sitka’s mom (while still preggers) with Susie’s other daughter-in-law in sweaters Susie made for them.

And here is Fumio with Mia, Susie’s granddaughter, in matching shrugs:

Didn’t Susie do a great job?  Everything fits, and they all seem to like the sweaters.  Susie puts a lot of thought into what she makes for other people and it pays off.  Right now, she’s designing a sweater for Sitka with an intarsia representation of the Sitka Pine (for which he is named.)  It’s very cute, a tiny little thing.

And speaking of tiny little things, here is Deb Koch modeling a little shrug Karen Wenrich whipped up for us in Colinette Tagliatelli.  It’s a whiplash fast knit, top down, from Knitting Pure and Simple:

Deb in Shrug And I’m hoping to have photos of more of the spring knits we’ve got in store for you over the next couple of weeks.  I’ve been knitting for spring since early January and with a lovely mild day today, finally feel in tune with the seasons.

Meanwhile, one more photo.  This appeared in the local paper sometime last week and I don’t remember what the story was. B&W swtr It should have been about the sweater.  I wanted to know more.  Did she knit it herself or did someone knit it for her?  I bet she knit it because she chose to wear it for this photo.  For sure, she didn’t buy it in a store.  What kind of yarn did she use? Looks like Noro. Is that ribbing at the bottom and the collar?  Probably, from the way the striping pattern changes.  Did she pick up for the sleeves?

For me, whoever wrote the story missed the whole point!

See you soon…

Trish
