Catching Up
Monday, April 6th, 2009Egads, I’m behind in writing to you all. I mean to remedy that right away, so let me tell you about some of the new things that have arrived at the shop in the last couple weeks. First, we got a shipment of the new Silk Garden Sock colors – 4 out of 8 arrived:
They’re such pretty colorways, great for scarves, shawls, light sweaters, and of course, socks! Four more to come – when, I can’t say. We also got new colors of Noro’s Taiyo, a soft cotton – wool-silk blend that I love to knit with. I’m dithering about what color to use, they are all intriguing:

The one in the middle is calling to me – I do love pink! We also received new colors of Ty-Dy from Knit One, Crochet Too – don’t have a picture but it’s flying out the door as usual, and I also ordered some of their Cotonade, a worsted weight cotton, nice texture and nice price, machine wash – just a great basic cotton. There are other things – Sublime Organic Cotton (creamy cotton, smooth, lovely colors), Crofter DK (neat self-patterning yarn, great colorways, easy care, socks, kids, or sweaters for us!), and Annie Adams pewter shawl pins (just beautiful!) but I’ll take photos and show what we’re planning for them later.
Oh, we’ll be CLOSED ON EASTER SUNDAY, April 12, just in case there was any doubt about it. And then we’ll have a nice surprise for all our Frequent Buyers the following week. You should get details in the mail this week, and if you don’t, you haven’t turned in a Frequent Buyer card since last June, or, if you have, I don’t have your mailing address and you should get in touch with me. Carol Swisher won our gift certificate drawing this time, but is too busy with her new grandbaby to spend it!
This is our new version of Edie’s Wrap, a beautiful and simple stole, knit by Karen Wenrich in “Tabali” a hand-dyed cotton/rayon blend, and modeled by Carol Slifka:
Thanks, Carol, you look great!
Linda Slovitsky finished her summer version of the Cuzco Wrap, in “Pima Fresca” – I just love it!

Rochelle Mann designed and knit this lovely cotton sweater for her daughter:
I love all the stitchwork that Rochelle puts into her sweaters, and you should hear her discourses on figuring out the math of combining all of them plus the raglan decreases. Yow!
This beautiful sweater coat was knit by Kelly, whose last name I don’t know, the pattern I don’t know, and the yarn I don’t know, because we were all too busy oohing, ahhing, and trying to keep our drool from getting on her beautiful coat. I’m so sorry, maybe she’ll comment and give us the information!

Tanji Terrell was on a mission to complete two beautiful little baby dresses for a shower for twins this past weekend – and she made it! I showed you the first one a couple weeks ago, and here is the second:
How much do you love the picot edging? These little sleeveless dresses are so clever and versatile. They can be worn alone in summer, over a top in fall, and become a tank top as the babies get older.
Jeannie Edfort has an Etsy shop, www.GloryByJeannieLee.etsy.com, where she sells her beautiful custom handbags, vintage pieces and other intriguing things. A customer wanted a sweater from the Rodarte Collection and Jeannie knit it for her!
Here’s the Rodarte:
and here’s Jeannie’s interpretation:
Fabu!
And here, just to inspire all of us who can’t imagine cutting our knitting in the casual way Fair-Isle knitters do, is a look at what the folks in Karen Walter’s Fair Isle Cardigan class were doing this past Saturday:
Loretta Hollenbach is cutting her front steek:
and here is Carol Coleman, beginning to pick up stitches for the border. She’ll pick up along the row where the arrows are, and the cut border will turn under neatly and can be whip stitched in place. So I’m told, never having done this myself. There’s always something new to try!
Fascinating, isn’t it?
So much more to talk about, but must go. Please have a wonderful Passover or Easter or simply celebrate a wonderful (we hope!) spring weekend.
See you soon…
Trish
