I Labored on Labor Day – how about you?

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

I hope everyone had a great holiday, I certainly did.  My sister popped down on Sunday just for overnight and we had a nice time, then Monday I spent in the shop moving yarn around to make room for the new stuff that is arriving all the time.  I won’t have any pictures this week – sorry!  It was too busy at the shop to take pictures and yesterday I forgot the camera at home. Today is all about errands and house stuff and getting this post in before Janelle updates me to the latest version of blog software.  I’ve been having a heckuva time posting, so let’s hope this solves the problem.

Check out Janet Kakareka’s projects – so pretty, you can tell she’s really into lacy things these days, and David’s latest.  I agree with him absolutely – Cotton Bamboo from Classic Elite is a wonderful yarn – it’s definitely on my list for next year.

This week brought shipments from Claudia Handpainted Yarns, mainly her French Scarf kits in assorted colorways, all just stunning.  you must come in and see the model – I know you’ll walk out with a kit.  They’re irresistably simple to make and just beautifully sophisticated to wear. Rowan sent Lima, their beautiful new yarn reviewed in Knitter’s Review this past week.   It’s intriguing and soft, and they sent me the wrong books so now I have to wait before I choose a model to make.  It’s killin’ me!  We got some nice plain sock yarn from Regia, too, in really nice tweeds and a couple of plain wearable colors.  I’m in the mood to knit up some fancy-cuffed socks and I want the pattern to show.  We got some new colors of Alpaca Sox from Classic Elite, also great wearable kettle dyed monochromes and one new multi-colored.  We now have a really great selection that should fit all tastes and budgets, I’m happy to say.  Tonos came in from Misti Alpaca and I really had to make something with it.  I’m doing this from Classic Elite’s Sunday Brunch Booklet – I don’t like the way it’s styled in the booklet, with a big heavy belt over the bottom ribbing – Please!  But looking at the schematic, I think it will be cute and easy to wear as a top layer, and it’s all done in the round from the yoke down and I needed something fun and simple after finishing the Textured Cardigan from Vogue..  which my sister modeled for me, but the shoulders are a little wide – I wonder if -uh, oh – shoulder pads are called for.  I don’t have any, I don’t think…

Okay, enough stream-of-consciousness for now.  There are two things I want to be sure to tell you.  First, Donna Guthrie’s Gansey Class was so popular that we’re splitting it into 2 sections, and that means we have a couple more spaces to fill.  If you’re interested, be sure to contact me right away.  I’ll put the details up on the Classes Page as soon as I’m done here.  Most classes are filling up well, but there are spaces available in every class except the Top Down Sweater class, which is full.  All you beginners out there who are always asking about classes – now is the time!

Second, I want to remind you that our hours are changing to Wednesday through Friday 11 -6, Saturday 11 – 3, and Sunday 12 – 4.  No more 7 pm on Thursdays, which will make it easier on the boys and on me – we get too hungry!  And just to let you know, Weight Watchers is going well for me – I’m doing the online version and posting my Points every day like a good girl and as always, it’s working.  The birthday weight is gone and I’m about half-way to where I’d like to be to start the holiday madness.  I still like the meetings but just can’t seem to get myself to one on a regular basis, so this will do.

Please stop by to sign up for class or see what’s new.  I love this time of year because I see friends I’ve missed all summer (and sometimes longer than that!)

See you soon…
