Okay I admit it, I miss everyone.  Last week, it felt so luxurious to have days at a time to mess around with the house, to load some new music on my iPod, to do a few errands and still have whole afternoons to read, sort through and throw out stuff, talk for an hour and a half to my niece.  Nice.

Two busy days at the shop and I thought another 5 days off would just be icing on the cake, but it’s too much and I just want to be back.  This is a sign – I don’t think I’d be very good at retirement!

So, I’ve been knitting and plotting and planning and researching and getting tax things together and generally keeping myself very busy. I’m working on a fun little summer top, hope it will work out and be a free pattern.  Brrr, I know, it’s too cold to think of summer knitting.  A little bit of book shopping may be in order, then New Year’s (my favorite holiday) and finally back to work.  Learned my lesson, next year I’m closing between Christmas and New Year and that’s all.  Someone please remind me of that when I’m all frizzled and frazzled next December, okay?

If one of your resolutions is to get rid of all your yarn odds and ends, Don’t Do It!  We’re going to have a Cat Hugs contest like we did a few years back, and it’s an excellent way to use up old stuff.  Cats don’t care about color or technique, they just want something soft and yarny to sink their paws in.  Loretta Hollenbach, who volunteers with the Humane Society, says they always need these little mats, which get sent with the cats to their new homes.  And every spring there is a huge influx of new kittens to the shelter, so we’ll be prepared.  Anyway, there will be an email with details and they’ll also be available at the shop.  They’re fun, easy, and a really good use for all those leftovers and all those yarns that you really just hate but they’re too good to get rid of. (None of them came from Yarn Gallery, I’m sure.)

Stay warm, knit warm things, cozy up under your favorite afghan, come see me this weekend if you can – I miss you!
