Freakish Weather
Haven’t we had it this year? The hottest summer ever, way too much rain all at one time, and now a big snow storm in October. It’s too weird. And I really hope all of you have electricity now. West Reading was spared, I’m grateful to say, mostly thanks to the great job our little borough does maintaining the street trees we love so much. So I had very little notion of what many areas are going through and how many people lost power, trees and freezers full of food. I hope everyone is safe and warm now. I know those wool socks and sweaters came in handy.
We received this fun new yarn from Plymouth this week – like all self-ruffling yarns, it took months to come in, so if you like it, come get some soon!
It’s called Joie de Vie and has a lot going for it, as you can see from this partially done sample scarf:
Ruffles, shine, color, and yes, folks, a little glitter. What more could you want?
I have lots of great projects to show you. First, here is the jacket Donna Guthrie made for her daughter-in-law-to-be’s wedding:
It’s lovely, warm, a little bit fuzzy, just luxurious! All the pearls were sewn on by hand, of course. Here’s a detail so you can see the trim:
I think that Kate would be envious!
Marcia Martin crocheted this Beseme scarf using Lang’s Malou in black, to set off this gorgeous vintage coat in lime:
Love it!
Mary Ann Posey made this adorable hoodie from Scheaffer Yarn’s Nancy. She used leftovers to make the matching hats:
I finished this scarf for my sister, from a pretty color of Ranco that was in my stash. The design is from Miriam Felton’s new book Twist and Knit:
And for the piece de resistance of this week, David finished this Marilyn sweater, a design by Beth Brown-Reinsel. It’s so gorgeous – I’m going to try to talk Donna, who also wants to knit this sweater, into a winter class – what do you all think? Deb Schlarb has been pining for something to keep her interested during the long winter months. I think this could do it:
Isn’t it just lovely? A masterful job, as usual for David.
Gracie is doing fine – not so sure about my sister, who obviously fell blindly in love and forgot the intensity of training a puppy. She was rejoicing that her daughter was visiting this past weekend and she would have a little break from keeping a constant eye on the “little pischer” as she called her. Is that a euphemism for something not very nice???
Off to do some errands and try to avoid the shoe store. I have a yearning for some new shoes which I neither need nor can afford. Wish me luck!
See you soon…
Trish
