Oh, That David!

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

I hear that phrase all the time, plus “How does he do it?”  “Where does he get the time?”  “He must knit in his sleep.”  David just knocks me out with his versatile knitting and now crocheting.  Do not miss looking at the two previous posts of his, they’re gorgeous!  He’s definitely got his creative mojo working.  I would love to have both the pieces he has just finished.  Well done!

We received a few new yarns in this week.  We’re restocked on Zauberball, at least for a little while, and a couple colors of Unisono came in.  I love these pretty spring colors of Filisilk, a wool and silk laceweight that makes a lovely and light shawl or scarf:

A new sock yarn, called “Wunderkleckse” (Karen looked it up, it translates into something like Wonder Splotches – completely appropriate), looks like it would be so much fun.   Comes in 3 colors and you can see the picture of how a sock would turn out.  Keep in mind, the other sock would be related, but different:

This new yarn is called Murano Lace, a wool and acrylic blend in a sport-DK weight.

It’s got 436 yd of color-changing yarn on a ball and I immediately thought of Wingspan, a new pattern available free on Ravelry.  Here’s my WIP:

I didn’t get much else done this week, what with a rotten cold – thanks to Karen, Donna, and Jayne who coped while I snuffled and napped at home – and a wonderful visit from my State College sister.  We should have more new yarns to show next week – Berroco’s due, with pretty yarns and Norah Gaughan’s new collection.

Hannah Weller took Janet’s felted tote class with a deadline in mind.  She is going on a trip to Italy and wanted this beautiful bag to take with her.  Hannah + Tote = 2 Beauties:

Deb Schlarb brought in another wonderful tea cozy.  Someone added sunglasses – like it needed more personality?

Yuko Lewandowski made this top-down entrelac sweater, choosing several different coordinating yarns to get the effect she wanted.  It turned out so beautifully that I talked her into a photo.  She wanted to remain headless, but I think she looks wonderful – so there! She has just embarked on another one.

Hope your mojo is working, too!  See you soon…

Trish

The Doldrums

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

Waiting for new yarn.  Waiting for new designs.  Waiting, waiting, waiting.  Trying to be good and finish up all projects so I’m ready for…New yarn.  New designs.

Finished my Manos afghan.  Love it to death.  You can’t believe how soft the wool becomes once it’s washed. Colors are much more beautiful than in this picture, which I took in late afternoon with my phone and cannot get rid of the yellow/green cast.

Finished this pretty, soft and easy-to-make shawl in Fibre Company’s Acadia, called Quaking Aspen, a free pattern on Kelbourne Woolens’ website:

Finished this pretty top called Gretel from Cocoknits in Claudia Handpainted Linen Laceweight.  Drape neck, handkerchief hem.  I see it adding color and grace to a simple summer tee or tank, even on the very hottest day:

Pretty linen colors:

Finished something else, too, but it turned out ugly so I’ll spare you!

I’m in the doldrums, but Deb Schlarb is still having fun.  Her jester tea cozy

inspired this hat for her son:

Deb makes her own fun and inspires me to imagine what could be!

See you soon…

Paperwork

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Well, I’m caught up with paperwork from the sale.  Thank you to everyone who came, it was very successful for us, and I hope you feel the same way!  Now on to taxes, which are starting to keep me awake at night, so I know I must get things organized and sent off to my lovely brother-in-law soon.

Kudos to Donna, Janet, Karen and Jayne, though, for their incredible work cleaning out and organizing the kitchen and classroom.  We threw away tons of old paperwork, display items, dusty baskets, things we couldn’t really identify, and so on.  It looks so much better, I’m going to put them onto the cotton room in a month or two, when it’s time to put cottons out onto the main floor, and see if I can chisel a little office space out of that mess.

Meanwhile, I’ve been knitting away with very little to show for it.  Very soon I’ll finish up several projects and take pictures.  A great cabled summer sweater in Debbie Bliss Amalfi, a terrific loose-knit tank in Claudia Laceweight Linen, a shawl in two colors of Fiber Company Acadia, a throw in Manos Wool Clasica, and a simple little topdown sweater in Lang Sol Degradé.  All just needing a little bit of this or that to finish up.  Of course, all I want to do is get new yarn in and start new things.  In a couple weeks, we’ll have lots of new yarns to work with – can’t wait!!

We got in a bunch of Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light, a fingering-weight wool we all love, but I have nothing left to show you.  It’s gone except for a few skeins of a few colors – of course, you only need one or two skeins to make a gorgeous shawl.  I wish I had ordered twice as much!  It takes so long to come in, but they were very nice and managed to get our shipment here in time for our Celes Shawl Class.  So all I have to show you this week is Namaste’s new Boardwalk Bag – a really great backpack-type bag:

This is the front of the bag, which has a zippered pocket and a secure buckle closure and you can see the metal-tipped drawstrings to cinch the top:

This is the reverse side, showing the adjustable shoulder straps and the carrying handle, as well as the vertical zippered pocket:

The interior is lined with faux-suede in this great neutral light gray, which means you can actually see what’s inside.  There are two open and one zippered pocket inside:

And these are the colors it comes in, in Namaste’s signature animal-friendly faux leather, which is even nicer than in their earlier bags and holds up for years, as I can testify:

I love the chocolate brown and don’t have a bag in that color.  But I may have one very soon – I love the backpack style for carrying things while managing two cocker spaniels who travel at very different speeds!

That’s all for this week.  Meanwhile, be sure to look at David’s accomplishments.  He took Lynne’s Queen Ann’s Lace Scarf class last weekend and finished it the same day.  It’s a very gorgeous scarf!

See you soon…

Trish
